The school of Physics, Communication and Electronics in Jiangxi Normal University originated from the physicochemical group of National Chung Cheng University’s special training program in 1942, which was set up as the physics division and then as physics department, and later in 2000, it was renamed as school of Physics, Communication and Electronics. After undergoing more than 70 years of ups and downs, it has developed into a school of science and engineering bearing both normal and non-normal education, integrating physics, communications, electronics along with photoelectric information majors.

The school now has four undergraduate majors including “physics”, “electronic information engineering”, “communication engineering” as well as “photoelectric information science and engineering”, among which physics is the specially-built program of Jiangxi province, electronic information engineering is an “outstanding engineer” training program at provincial level, and communication engineering is a comprehensive reform pilot specialty in Jiangxi province; owns the authorized center for conferring doctoral degree in secondary discipline of nano material physics and chemistry, the authorized center for conferring master’s degree in two academic first-level disciplines of physics and optical engineering, as well as the authorized center for offering professional master's degree in Master of Education in Subject Teaching (physics) and Master of Engineering (optical engineering). Our school’s optics is the key construction discipline of “the 10th Five-Year Plan” and “the 11th Five-Year Plan” of Jiangxi province, while our physics is the key construction discipline of “the 12th Five-Year Plan” of Jiangxi province.

Our school now has four provincial research platforms including “Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Photoelectron and Communication”, “Jiangxi Provincial Laboratory of Micro-nano Materials and Sensing Engineering”, “Jiangxi Provincial 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center - Advanced Sensor Devices and System Integration”, as well as “Jiangxi Provincial Academician Workstation for Magnetic Sensor”, and one Jiangxi provincial preponderant science and technology innovation team. Our faculty, based on the national and Jiangxi provincial development strategies, conduct science and technology researches on micro-nano materials and devices, new energy materials, laser technology, quantum communication, photoelectronic devices, and new optical communication products, etc. During the period of “the 12th Five-Year Plan”, we made abundant scientific research achievements and had sufficient scientific research funds, with a total of more than 400 papers published and included in SCI, including 78 high-level papers (namely papers included in SCI-1 and SCI-2); undertook more than 150 scientific research projects including 42 national projects, with a total funding of over 50 million yuan.

Our school enjoys a strong teaching team, where there are 102 faculty members in total, including 21 professors, 27 associate professors, 55 teachers with a doctorate or studying for doctor's degree, 1 “double hired ” academician, 1 distinguished professor of the national “Recruitment Program of Global Experts”, 2 talents in the “Talents Project” of Jiangxi province, 1 staff of the Jiangxi “Three Five-hundred Talents Project” , 2 staff of the Jiangxi “Young Scientists to be Cultivated”, 1 national excellent master tutor, 1 famous teacher of Jiangxi province, 7 young and middle-aged academic leaders in colleges and universities in Jiangxi province, 4 key teachers of colleges and universities in Jiangxi province, 2 excellent graduate teachers of Jiangxi Province, and 7 excellent tutors in master's thesis of Jiangxi Province.     

We currently have more than 1000 undergraduate students and over 100 full-time graduate students at school. Our school has always taken the student-centered and high-quality inter-disciplinary talents cultivation as our own responsibility, and actively created conditions and paved the way for students to grow. Our students have conducted very active academic and innovative activities, whose science and technology works have won many prizes in national discipline competitions of electronics and various provincial science and technology competitions, with lots of undergraduate students and all graduate students following their teachers in entering the laboratory, carrying out scientific and technological study with the research team and achieving fruitful results. During “the 12th Five-Year Plan”, our undergraduate and graduate students published a total of more than 300 papers, including over 100 papers included in SCI and obtained more than 30 authorized patents.

Our school has a six-storey experimental teaching building covering a total of more than 15000 square meters, with experimental teaching instruments and equipment worth over 20 million yuan and scientific research equipment worth more than 30 million yuan; possesses four provincial key laboratories and research platforms, four school-level key laboratories as well as one library information center, which better satisfies the needs of teaching, research and learning at all levels.

Our school makes full use of academic and technical advantages to serve the social economic development. The advanced sensor developed by micro-nano material and sensor innovation team has realized commercialization; new energy material research team has provided technical support and consulting services for  lithium ion batteries and other high-tech enterprises in Jiangxi and Guangdong provinces, offering suggestions for local governments to formulate policies and regulations along with development plans. Our school has got the utmost out of the pedagogical characteristics and advantages to actively undertake the “national cultivation” and “provincial cultivation” projects, thus having trained a large number of physical education talents for the society, promoting the educational reform and innovation, facilitating social progress, and providing the talent guarantee and intellectual support for the development of education in Jiangxi province. In 2016, our school successfully held the national advanced seminar about the “physical properties and application of new micro-nano materials”, and the number of students from 11 provinces and troops nationwide reached over 70.

Our school has given full play to the advantages of our disciplines and talents to strengthen international cooperation, and has signed a science and technology cooperation agreement with Kent State University in America and the University College Dublin in Ireland. Each year our school will send some teachers to go abroad to conduct senior visit or participate in international collaborative research, meanwhile, we also invite some internationally renowned scholars to our school to give lectures, make exchanges, and accept foreign students to study in our school.
